Over the last year, the COVID pandemic, its economic repercussions, and widespread discussions about systemic racial injustice have rocked every corner of our society. These compounding crises have both shone a light on the existing inequalities built into our infrastructure systems and put new pressures on our water, transportation, energy, and broadband networks.

This presents us with an opportunity to take stock and fight for the infrastructure that every American deserves: safe and reliable transportation to cut down barriers to jobs, education, and healthcare; 21st century supply chains that bringing food and goods to our doors even in the middle of a pandemic; clean, affordable water for our families; high-speed internet to connect everyone to education, healthcare, work, and entertainment; and the comfort of knowing that our homes are safe from floods, wildfires, and other natural disasters.

There is so much to talk about this year, from highlighting the role of essential infrastructure workers to keeping our country safe and moving during a pandemic, the ways infrastructure decisions have perpetuated inequities in communities of color—and what to do about it.
